Dear Colleagues,

Green is the color of hope. And we guess this is what we all feel now working in the MICE Business. We all feel that more and more requests are reaching us. And this puts enthusiasm back in all our minds. Also, we are all so hopeful that travel will soon begin again so that we can welcome you soon here in Germany.

For many people, green has strong associations with nature and immediately brings to mind the lush green of grass, trees, and forests. But did you know that more and more cities are “going green” as well?

Berlin is the perfect example.

SETTING TRENDS
FOR THE FUTURE.

Berliners love to “go green.” Formerly known as an industrial city, Berlin is a trendsetter now for urban farming, vegan gastronomy, green fashion, and a wide range of green start-up companies revolutionizing the scene. Zero-waste living, plastic-free shops, car sharing, and bicycles replacing the car as a status symbol are leading the way to a green metropolis. More than a third of the city is green space – and very much used by Berliners as an outside living room.
More and more sustainable urban tours within the MICE industry are being developed as well: you can do a city tour on a bike, velotaxi, or solar boat. You can do a “Green Tour” through Berlin’s different districts. You can do a “Vegan Culinary Challenge.” Or you can join a “Green Fashion Tour” specializing in the latest creative trends in the capital.

STEP INTO THE AMAZING HISTORY OF BERLIN!

No other traffic light symbol in the world was as carefully developed, from both technical and psychological aspects, as the former East German Ampelmännchen. Still today you can see them everywhere. But there is so much more to see of the rich history of the city of Berlin. Old buildings from the time of the Prussian Empire form an amazing contrast to the remaining parts of the Berlin Wall at the East Side Gallery.

Now it`s the right time to plan your Kick-Off meeting 2022!

BERLIN AS A MICE DESTINATION

One of Berlin’s greatest advantages is that it has the largest number of hotels in Germany. More than 130,000 beds are available in around 800 hotels and the value for money is excellent. Compared to other major European cities, Berlin offers very competitive prices for rooms in the 3- to 5-star range. Options include elegant superior properties, sustainable accommodation providers, and the Estrel Berlin, Europe’s largest hotel and convention complex.

Major events such as Berlin Fashion Week, the Berlinale, or the ITB are known all over the world.

BERLIN, THE CAPITAL OF THE “DÖNER”.

Berlin is also the best example of a multicultural city. One of its signature dishes, the “Döner,” was invented by a former Turkish migrant worker as a snack, just next to the famous “Kurfürstendamm.” Originally consisting of meat and bread only, you can find every possible variation today on every corner in Berlin – even a vegan version!

DO YOU WANT TO TRY
MAKING YOUR OWN?

Here is a recipe:

Drain the liquid from a tin of braised tofu. Add some oil to a hot pan and fry the tofu with ½ a finely chopped onion, ½ a tsp of salt and cumin, 1 tsp of smoked paprika and garlic powder, and ½ a tsp of mild chili powder for a few minutes until the tofu becomes almost crispy. To make the soy yoghurt sauce, mix 4 tbsp of soy yoghurt, add ½ a tsp of garlic powder, and season to taste with a dash of salt. Toast a pita bread and then slice open. Fill it with salad leaves, sliced tomatoes, cucumber, and sliced onion rings, add the vegan döner ingredients and then top with soy yoghurt sauce and some chili sauce.

A GREEN LUCKY CLOVER

To finish with our “Green Blog” today, we want to wish you all the best of luck. Living in an era of technical innovation and scientific discovery, some Germans still love the tradition of holding on to superstitions. So, if you find a lucky clover, even better together with a ladybug, you are ready to play the lottery. And if you ever see a German knocking on wood, saying “toi, toi, toi,” just accept that they hope your wishes come true.
